I’m at a complete loss as to how to start this post. I can’t think of a single witty, pithy, or even inspirational comment. I can’t even pull out any sarcasm to lighten the mood. In lieu of all of those things, I suppose I’ll just get to the meat of the matter, what’s been happening the last several days.
It’s been so long since I’ve spoken with you all and much has happened. I’m not sure where to begin. In short, here are all the things I’ve done in the last few days:
- Had an impression made of my teeth for an Under Armour mouth guard for running.
- Have had several meetings, phone calls, and emails with Missouri State University and the sum of all those meetings, phone calls, and emails has concluded that I will begin graduate school in the Spring. More on the below.
- Participated in the 4th annual Silver Dollar City Run to the Lights 5K
- Attended the first Heart of America Challenge at CrossFit. Did not compete in the challenge, but volunteered and cheered on my friends as they competed. More on that below.
- Ry and I went to the symphony and were able to hear one of my favorite pieces performed, Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
- Ran my last long run before the Route 66 Marathon this weekend.
- Watched the annual SBU basketball game against Springfield rival Drury.
- Took Jerome to our vet to have his stitches removed, more booster shots, and a general check up.
When you put all the things in an itemized list like this it doesn’t seem so bad, but the hours spent doing all these things add up quickly.
First things first, school. As you all are aware, my original intention was to start school in the Spring to get my third bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I spent 2.5 hours in the advising office for a 15 minute visit with the advisor all to tell me that I should be getting a graduate degree instead of another bachelor. It would take me roughly 64 hours to get a bachelors and about 50-60 to get a masters. Hmmmm, what should I choose? I did not realize that the school would make me take the business hours requirement for the undergraduate degree. Sigh. Once I made the decision that a masters was the direction I was going to take it has been one thing after another getting all the kinks ironed out. Cross your fingers, but I’m very close to having my classes wrapped up for the Spring. I’m so accustomed to my lovely SBU and their over-the-top helpfulness that the big university atmosphere is like a whole new world. Let’s hope I adapt soon. Sink or swim, my friends.
Secondly, the CrossFit challenge. W.O.W. That’s all I have to say. You unless you were there to see it you just can’t imagine the things these people were doing. It completely blew me away. I have never been more proud of the people from CrossFit Springfield in my entire life. It made me honored to belong to this family of people that calls itself a gym. I hope that someday I can be just like ‘em!
Lastly, the marathon. This week all my mental and physical focus is on the marathon and preparation for it. My mood swings are bigger than the tire swing my aunt had in her yard- one minute I’m thinking I just have to finish and the next I’m pumped up because I’ve earned this great race. We’ll see. I have trained hard for 18 weeks, heart problems and all, and whatever God deals me on Sunday will be shown then. Right now I’m just trying not to get sick. Everyone around me is dropping like flies with something or other so I’ve become the largest germ-a-phobe you’ve ever seen. I’m taking my regular vitamin, my special energy vitamins, extra doses of Emergen-C, drinking water by the liter, washing my hands like someone with OCD, sleeping every moment I can….doing all that I can anyway. I am going to run a great marathon on Sunday. I am going to run a great marathon on Sunday. I am going to run a great marathon on Sunday. I am going to run a great marathon on Sunday.
I have pictures of so many things to show you but no time to plug them in here. Go check out my facebook; they are all there until I can post something here. If you’re not my facebook friend, well, ask. J
TODAY I LOVE: warmth (which I can’t find in my office)
