Imma Be
Captain’s Log: Week 1 Day 1 of sugar free clean eating has commenced. Coffee on day 1 was a no-go. I was thoroughly disheartened to see that my fat-free creamer is laden with sugar; it’s probably more sugar than dairy substitute. Instead I had a hot cup of Yogi Mayan Cocoa Spice tea. It was not the same, but it has not made me cower in the corner crying for my mommy. The menu for the day includes lots of good things that I love to eat: cucumbers, tomatoes, hummus, almonds, apples, strawberries, kashi cereal, milk, Moroccan chicken, and couscous to name a few. I’m only going to focus on one day at a time and today’s menu looks great!
Everyone, attention please. Today is the start of Ryan’s Birthday Week! While I’ll do my level best to not make a huge deal about it (I know, I promised you honey) but seriously, this is a BIG birthday. It’s going to take lots and lots of well-wishes to get you through this coming year. I keep reading that we’re going to start falling apart starting right at this year. But let’s not think about that. Let’s think about the lady at Big Cedar Lodge this weekend that treated us like we were pesky, idiot, young, kids. You’re still pesky. At least until Wednesday. Happy Birthday Week, Ryan!
Speaking of Big Cedar Lodge…well, that was an experience! I am not one to berate people for no-good-reason but I have not been treated so inhospitable nor so rudely in some years. I consider myself to be a friendly sort. I make it a habit, no matter what, to greet people with a wide smile and southern-style syrupy pleasantries. It’s just how it is done. And when I come to you with questions or information, I go over the top with kindness. Catch more flies with honey, right? On Saturday Ryan and I were driving around Branson looking at possible locations for condominiums that we might like to stay at over the summer. We’re trying really hard to save money this year and focus on getting out of debt so we’re keeping our vacation local. One of the stops on our list of condos was the Bluegreen Wilderness Club at Big Cedar Lodge. Folks, it was beautiful. I had high hopes we’d be able to look at a unit and get some information. I got some information all right and it wasn’t good. The lady working the information desk in the Wilderness Club office took one look at Ry and I (evidently sizing us up to not be part of their clientele) and had no desire to help us. It felt like that scene from Pretty Woman where the shopkeepers on Rodeo Drive wouldn’t help poor Julia Roberts. According to the “Lady” (and I say that loosely) at the front desk, “We have no one to help you right now. This place is very hard to get into. You might try back in January.” Seriously? I could have had a million dollars ready to spend on some units and she would have missed out because she was too busy looking down her nose at me in my jeans, CrossFit hoodie, and Converse. Bad move, Missy. You need to learn your manners. You should treat everyone with respect no matter their age or appearance.
Other than that slight hiccup, an ugly KU loss, and crummy weather, it was a great weekend.
I started off this morning with a good ‘ole workout in the CrossFit gym. The goal of the workout was to complete as many rounds as possible in 15 minutes of: 7 thrusters (65lbs), 12 kettlebell swings (35lbs), and 7 pull ups (band assisted). I finished with 6 rounds plus another set of thrusters. I’m pleased to say, however, that I did all the thrusters with 65lbs! That’s the most I’ve ever done! Sadly, looking back on it now, I probably could have done the prescribed weight of 75lbs at least for a little while had I really tried. Today proves to me that I am getting stronger and getting better. Consistent time in the gym and my sessions with Brian are paying off. Who knew? I’m going back to the box tonight to get in several thousand meters (10,000 to be exact) on the row machine. Shoot me.
