Sweeter Than This

If anyone had told me a year ago that I’d be caught pushing and pulling a big ‘ole black weighted sled around a parking lot, I would have looked at them like they had been in the sun too long eating beans.  That, however, is exactly what I did last night in personal training.

Prowler Sled

Personal training was as grueling as ever last night.  It started out glorious with a mile run in the sunshine and ended with me swallowing my stomach that somehow managed to be hanging out in my throat.  Huge props to Coach Brian, this was only the second time in my stint at CrossFit that I’ve been this-close to throwing up. I told Brian this, as I was bent in half over a kettlebell, and his response was, “Just throw up.  We’re outside.  Now pick up the kettlebell.”  Well then.  We know where I rank.  I’m afraid in his mind he was probably thinking how a gal could possibly get sick over a workout as sissy as this, but at least he never said it out loud.  I would have had to kill him.  Anyway, we did a myriad of things that ranged from running, to “man on fire” burpees (which have subsequently given me a bruised hip, bruised knees and a bruised shoulder blade), 55lb push presses, pull ups, kettlebell swings, double kettlebell cleans and front squats, and The Sleds.  Plural.  There are two of these sleds of torture.  I felt like a football player in training and it was great.  I’m really a sick person for enjoying this stuff.

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I agreed to do a rowing challenge.  The challenge is to row 10,000m everyday for 25 days straight.  Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or resources to devote to that extensive of an endeavor.  I’m doing half that (at least) for 2-3 days a week.  There are loads of benefits to rowing and that is the only reason I’m agreeing to this cruelty.  Sadly, I’m already behind.  By the time I talked myself into doing it I’m a week behind.  My booty is going to be gracing the saddle of a rowing machine for a while in the very near future.

Onto another topic, food.  Would you expect any less?  Yesterday my friend brought me a cupcake to enjoy that she prepared from her new cookbook Ani’s Raw Food Desserts.

Lemon Cupcake

Her first sweet treat out of the book was a lemon cupcake.  I was a bit skeptical but it was delicious.  Absolutely delicious. The best part about the whole thing is that it is so good for you.  Every ingredient is raw and in it’s natural form and are packed full of body-loving properties.  This lemon cupcake had 8 ingredients: cashews, banana, lemon, agave nectar, pecans, coconut, dates, and vanilla.  That’s it.  This little treat sealed the deal for me in going clean and sugar free.  Yes, I realize the agave nectar is in fact a sugar, but it is natural and in a very small quantity (2 tablespoons for the whole batch).  I’m excited to begin this journey and see where it takes me!

This weekend I am going to attempt to make my own yogurt.  What better way to control the sugar in a food I eat a lot of than to make my own?  If it doesn’t work then all I’m out in expense is a half a gallon of milk and if it does work, well, then, I’m a happy girl.

Big weekend…the weather is getting cold again (yuck) but I still hope to get a long run of some distance in tomorrow.  I get to actually spend time with my husband this weekend so we might go for a drive somewhere.  Who knows.

TODAY I LOVE: raw cupcakes and sunshine
